As the Duanwu Festival draws near, the School of International Education organized a hands-on sachet-making activity for international students and, taking this opportunity, carried out holiday safety education to reinforce students’ safety awareness.

At the workshop, the school prepared materials including sachet bags, mugwort leaves, and spices, while counselors introduced the origin of the Duanwu Festival and its folk customs to the international students. Through hands-on practice, the students gained immersive exposure to traditional Chinese culture and further enhanced their identification with Chinese culture.

Following the workshop, the school provided students with safety education for the Duanwu holiday, focusing on four aspects:

First, strict prevention of drowning hazards. Students were required to strictly abide by the Six Prohibitions Against Drowning, stay away from dangerous waters such as rivers, ponds and reservoirs, and avoid unauthorized swimming or playing in the water.

Second, strict compliance with traffic regulations. Students were required to travel safely during the holiday, observe traffic rules, avoid unlicensed or overloaded vehicles, ride properly, and refrain from dangerous behaviors such as using mobile phones while walking or jaywalking.

Third, vigilance against telecom fraud. Students were advised to strengthen anti-fraud awareness, not to trust scams such as fake part-time job offers or fraudulent online shopping refund schemes, not to disclose personal information or transfer money without verification, and to seek help from teachers in a timely manner when encountering problems.

Fourth, strict dormitory fire safety. Before leaving campus, students were required to turn off water and electricity, lock doors and windows, clear away flammable items, and strictly avoid unauthorized wiring and the use of high-power electrical appliances in violation of regulations, so as to eliminate fire hazards.

By integrating cultural experience with safety education, this event not only enriched the campus life of international students and promoted Chinese-foreign cultural exchange, but also further strengthened students’ awareness of safety and self-discipline. The school will continue to advance cultural education and regular safety education to support all international students’ safe and rewarding study experience in China.
